Before & After One

9 July 2008 by: Yervant

‘Straight from camera’ is not professional!! Full STOP!

Here is #1 of a series of my Before and After images I want show as as basic examples.

Ever since professional photography has existed, FINISHING has co-existed. Retouching, dark-room techniques even from the time of glass film applied methods of FINISHING to their images to achieve perfection.

Today we have Aperture™, Photoshop™ etc.
It is up to an individual whether they use classic finishing like in the dark room or go heavier and ‘Arty’ with treatments and so forth.

I strongly and vehemently believe that an image is not professional unless it is FINISHED! I am NOT NOT NOT talking about fixing a bad picture here, I am talking about FINISHING. Simple few steps to make a great image a perfect and professional image.

FINISHING is what makes us the professional from the Uncle Harry, from the amateur and for us to add the VALUE on our images and hence our prices.

Would any one buy a car … without the paint job because it is “PURE” (unadulterated, uncontaminated, unmixed, undiluted, unalloyed, unblended; sterling, solid, refined, one hundred percent; clarified, clear, filtered; flawless, perfect, genuine, real)?

:)

I have chosen some pretty simple images here to illustrate the power of finishing, I have shot these during my recent USA workshop seminars.

Each image takes between 5 to 15 minutes, easy, simple and totally effective. it’s like writing a sentence with good punctuation, makes all the difference…
